Exploring the delights of cycling

Ice skating

The rain washed away all the salt that had been laid for the Christmas storm. After staying in the 40s F for a week, all the snow melted. And after days of overcast skies (but no more rain), the roads were finally dry and salt free. Perfect for cycling again! No matter that the temperature dropped to just below freezing.

Sunday afternoon, the skating rink was so busy that instead of gingerly walking my bike along the ice to get to the bike rack, my friend was nice enough to open the doors of the warming house for me; and, I carried my bike through. My bike was the only one in the rack. My skates fit perfectly in the milk crate bungeed to the bike rack. Perhaps most skaters walk to the park, or, maybe everyone drives. It would be difficult to bike with all the hockey gear that the shinny players use. Not sure how’d I carry a hockey stick on a bike.

Once the snow and salt reappear, I’ll be walking again. But for now, I’m enjoying the fast cycling commute to the neighborhood rinks.
